Do we really know who Rupert Murdoch is?

Rupert Murdoch, the CEO of News Corp. and probably one of, if not the, most influential people in the media industry today.

He owns shares in Google and Youtube, is the former owner of MySpace, and currently owns all of the 20th Century Fox Group (Fox Films, Fox Tv, Fox News, Fox Music). In the UK he owns the Sun Newspaper, The Times, The Sunday Times, he formerly owned the News of the World before it got closed down and he is also the owner of British Sky Broadcasting (BskyB/Sky).

He is no doubt, a media conglomerate. Nearly everything we consume as media text (tv, film, radio, print) he has some percentage of, and therefore an influence over.

His presence can be seen in the UK, the USA, parts of Europe, Asia, South America and Australia in forms of newspapers, TV, Radio, film, the web and edition (books). With his presence across multi platforms Mr.Murdoch reaches a whole range of audiences, such at those at the top end of the social scale (the times and wall street journal readers) to those of a lower social status, (the readers of the Sun and watchers of the Simpsons).

Possibly the most powerful man in the world Rupert Murdoch throws in enough sensationalism and repeats the lies often enough, many of his consumers become his “robots”, spreading his propaganda like a virus. However, the public are naive and are un aware that they are under his influence, how often do the general public think about what they are being fed by TV and media programming and how it influences their lives after all.

Being as influential on the industry as he is, it is probably a large problem that Rupert Murdoch has the power he does, therefore it is important that the Virgin Media Group grow to form proper competition.
